MARIETTA, Ga. -- The Life University men's volleyball team fell in a pair of tough three set matches Friday and Saturday, falling to the visiting Warriors from Webber International University on Friday before the Royals from Warner University doubled the damage with a 3-0 sweep on Saturday.
On Friday, the Running Eagles had a tough night on the attack hitting .102 while the Warriors responded with emphatic blocks and kills in the 3-0 sweep. In fact, the Warriors recorded 11 blocks as Gunter Perea Quevedo recorded five solo blocks and one assisted block in the sweep.
In the loss, the Running Eagles received solid performances from David Barcan and Ryan Ollie as both recorded eight kills each. Defensively, Alexis Prado provided nine digs while Nefty Vigo tallied 23 assists.
With little time to recover, the Running Eagles faced a tough task on Saturday, turning around and playing RV Warner University less than 16 hours after the match against Webber.
In the Warner matchup, the Running Eagles played host to a scorching-hot and undefeated Royals team, eventually falling in sets one and two before pushing back in the third set. Despite battling to gain a 14-11 lead in the third set, the Royals used a push to keep the match close throughout the late teens and early twenties. Tied at 20, 21, and 23, the Running Eagles lost the final two crucial points to fall in the sweep.
Offensively better on Saturday, the Running Eagles hit .274 while the Royals cruised to a .392 attack percentage. The rest of the stats were pretty evenly distributed as the visitors narrowly edged out each category by a slim margin. Life U's attack was led by freshman Gracjan Mackowiak who recorded a new season and career high with 10 kills in the contest. Additionally, the Polish newcomer hit efficiently at .692 with a singular block in the match.
Up next, the Running Eagles look ahead to Thursday as they travel to face Carolina University in a non-conference road matchup.
