SAVANNAH, Ga. --- The Life University women's lacrosse team hit the road for some top 10 Sun Conference women's lacrosse action at SCAD-Savannah Thursday evening, coming up short late in a 14-11 loss.
Life U (8-3, 3-2 SUN) suffered their second conference loss of the season, while No. 7 SCAD (7-5, 4-1 SUN) continued their recent strong run.
Maria Arvizu led the way on the attack, giving the team four goals to go with a ground ball and nine draw controls. Despite suffering the loss, goal keeper
Ashley Hammel collected a career high 15 saves on the day.
Neither team could create any separation during the first half in what played out as a very tightly contested game. Life U opened on a 2-0 lead after early scores by Arvizu and
Nicole Ortiz. The Bees took the lead with a 3-0 run of their own, but
Roxie Beasley got in on the scoring late in the period to see the teams exit the first tied 3-3. Much like the first, the second started with a 2-0 run by the Running Eagles as
Lacy Legaspi and Ortiz found the back of the net. Three straight scores by the home team saw Life U go into the break down 6-5.
After the half ended, the Running Eagles came out hot scoring two quick goals for the 7-6 lead. The Bees took advantage the majority of the rest of the third to send the teams into the final 15 minutes, Life U trailing 11-9. A 3-0 run by the Bees to start the fourth put Life U in a tough spot to try and come back from. The Running Eagles recorded a pair of goals from Arvizu late, but it was not enough as they lost 14-11.
The Running Eagles stay on the road for their next contest, facing No. 5 Cumberlands Saturday at 2 PM.
