MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's volleyball team hosted their annual Running Eagle Classic, competing against Lindsey Wilson and their in-state rival Reinhardt. In the first match, the Running Eagles were victorious in five sets to a well trained Lindsey Wilson (3-2) team before defeating Reinhardt 3-1.
Match 1: Lindsey Wilson 2, Life U 3
The Running Eagles kept control against the skilled Lindsey Wilson team, which primarily consisted of veterans. In the first set, Life U gave the Blue Raiders a run early but eventually lost the frame 25-21. Bringing the momentum into the second set the Running Eagles controlled a stellar 20-9 advantage and quickly ended the set with a frame win, 25-12. The third set saw the Running Eagles hold set point three times, but in the end fell 28-26. Set four was again controlled by Life U, and ended with a huge frame win, 25-14. The Running Eagles wrapped the frame up with an outright kill from Chloe Teter. With the final set, an enormous kill by Lena Pucnik ended the match with a 15-11 win.
Life U added up 60 kills and ten aces. Junior Chloe Teter excelled in this match, leading the team with 15 kills and three aces.
Naomi Eckert Rivera also continued to show out for the Running Eagles with 45 assists.
Match 2: Reinhardt U 1, Life 3
The Running Eagles held strong against Reinhardt, bringing down the Eagles 3-1 for their third win of the season. The women's team took the match with the first two sets, crushing RU (25-21) and (25-8), but the next set saw the Eagles show up with a close 25-22 losing frame. In the fourth, the Running Eagles sealed the deal 25-17 to earn their third win of the season.
Life U left the night with 52 kills, but actually had less overall digs than Reinhardt who had 54, but the Running Eagles dominated with nine aces and six blocks. Offensively led by graduate student Lena Pucnik (14 kills), Chloe Teter followed with twelve kills while Fayola Louis recorded nine to continue their remarkable run. Naomi Eckert again led the team with 41 assists. Defensively, freshman Lela Parker and Fayola Louis put down three massive blocks in the win.
