Women's Soccer Rolls to 5-0 Win over MGA Knights

Records: MGA, 2-4-1 (2-0 SSAC); Life U, 4-2 (2-0 SSAC)

Marietta, Ga. - The Life U women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory at home on Thursday evening in Marietta.

The Running Eagles scored twice in the first half and three more times in the second half to put the game away.

Life U totaled 14 shots for the contest, dominating possession throughout.

Freshman Sara Diaz started things off early with her third goal of the season, off an assist from junior Jeanne Brigand.

Then, graduate student Anakah Madril added to the board after a penalty kick goal to lead the Running Eagles 2-0 going into the second half. 

Brigand then tacked on a goal of her own off Lottie Turner's assist to make it 3-0 Running Eagles in the 46' minute. Then, just over 19 minutes later, junior Gabby Cruzado put one in the back of the net with her first season goal, off an assist from Lottie Turner.

Less than a minute later, Cruzado put another goal past the Knights defender to earn a brace, off of an assist from Lavinia Horning to end the game 5-0. 

Head coach Meg Goddard shared her thoughts on the win stating, "Impressive performance front to back." Goddard then continued, "Really happy we got the shutout and happy for Gabby Cruzado to get her first Life U brace."

Up next, the Running Eagles will stay at home to host Brewton-Parker College this Sunday, Sep. 24 at 3 p.m.

TURNING POINT:

- Diaz's first half goal was all Life U needed in the 5-0 shutout.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

- Cruzado led the Running Eagles with two goals on the night.

- Turner contributed two assists towards the shutout.
