Talladega, Al. - The Life U women's soccer team earned its second win of the season with a 6-0 shutout at Talladega College on Tuesday afternoon in Talladega.
The Running Eagles controlled possession throughout and dominated the shot count, scoring four times in the first half and twice more in the second half to roll past the Tornados.
Several players stood out on Tuesday with two of Life U's six goals coming from the bench. Lavinia Horning, Dana Billington, Sara Diaz, Lilja Bjorg Olafsdottir, and Amy Hunt all notched their first goals of the season in the victory while graduate student Anakah Madril found the back of the net as well.Â
It did not take the Running Eagles long to strike. In just the 4' minute, Billington was able to charge past several of the Tornados' defenders to strike the first goal of the game.Â
Just over 16 minutes later, it was freshman Diaz's turn to get in on the action. After fighting her way down the field Diaz found herself in front of Talladega's goalkeeper to net in a goal to make it 2-0 Running Eagles.
The scoring barrage continued with two more quick goals as Madril found her way past the back line and put away an easy goal finding her fourth of the season. Then, Olafsdottir finished the first half with a beautiful strike into the goal going into halftime with a 4-0 lead.Â
Life U held a 8-0 shot advantage and led 4-0 going to the halftime break.
However, the Running Eagles were not done scoring, as Hunt made it 5-0 in the 58' while Horning closed the book in the 62' . Life U's last goal in the second half was also assisted by Hunt.
Up next, the Running Eagles continue their season on the road against Cumberland University (Tenn.). The contest is set for 2 p.m.Â
TURNING POINT:
- The Running Eagles scored four times within the first 36 minutes of the contest and controlled possession throughout in the runaway win.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCE:
- Amy Hunt scored a goal and delivered an assist to end the game with a 6-0 win.
