Simmons Scores Career-High as Running Eagles Take Off Past Brewton-Parker

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - With a huge comeback in the fourth quarter, the Life U women's basketball team rolled to a 65-61 win over Brewton-Parker College Saturday afternoon. With trailing by 12 points heading to the final period, the Running Eagles left no doubt in the final minutes of the fourth outscoring the Barons 24-8.

In the first quarter, Life U started off hot leading for most of the first ten minutes. After a tight battle through the opening minutes, both the Barons and Running Eagles pushed through BPC leading 24-19 into the second. 

The Barons decided to take off in the second quarter as Brewton-Parker held the edge at the half 37-26. It was a slow start for the Running Eagles with Maikya Simmons leading Life U in the first half with six points including going 3-of-5 from inside the arc. 

The third quarter was still a tough battle for Life U who was outscored by the Baron again. Bretwon-Parker took the edge 16-15, but the fourth was all Life U as was the final score line. 

The Running Eagles pushed through in the final ten minutes outsourcing the Barons 24-8 helping them secure the win.  Simmons was able to finish with a ten point fourth quarter, while Darryn Zeigler was able to put up two threes to help create the lead to end the game on a high note. 

Four Running Eagles scored eight or more led by Simmons who posted a career-high 23 points. 

Up next, the Running Eagles will face Point University on the road Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

TURNING POINT:

--Life U left no doubt in the fourth quarter outscoring Brewton-Parker 24-8.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

--Maikya Simmons scored 23 points for a new career-high mark to lead all scorers in the game. 

-- Darryn Zeigler, Maeisha Teasley and Brionna Sims added eight points as well.
