NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Life U women's basketball team was unable to keep pace with a strong Loyola University New Orleans team, falling 74-56 Saturday afternoon.
Playing its first contest of 2024, the Running Eagles out-scored the Wolf Pack in the first quarter 19-12, but it dropped from there, as Loyola (La.) ripped off a big second quarter run and scored 43 first-half points to remove all doubt from the outcome.
Darryn Zeigler led Life U with eleven points scoring nine of those points from the arc. Brionna Sims joined in double figures, adding ten points and Freshman Laphina Campbell added to the battle, with nine points, seven rebounds and a 2-of-3 showing at the free throw line.
Although the halftime deficit was too large to overcome, Life U fought back in the second half, evenly playing Loyola (La.) 18-18 in the final quarter. Â
Overall, Life U dominated the glass, with a 51-43 rebounding edge.
Up next, the Running Eagles will be right back in action, hosting University of Mobile Wednesday, January 10th at 5:30 p.m. inside the Eagles' Nest.
