MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life U women's soccer hosted Dalton State on Lupo Family Field on Thursday evening in the last home game of the Regular Season. A late second half goal led the Running Eagles to a 1-0 win against the Roadrunners.
The Running Eagles started off the game with high pressure against the Roadrunners. The first half was passive as neither of the teams were able to create any dangerous chances. It wasn't until the 15th minute that Lilja Bjorg Olafsdottir had the first shot of the game. Both teams created a couple of chances, but neither of their teams were able to capitalize. Both Life U and Dalton State's defense held the ground and the teams went into halftime in a tie, 0-0.
Life U started off the second half with more energy and were able to create more chances than in the first half. The Running Eagles received several corner kicks but weren't able to capitalize on any. Life U kept possession throughout the second half and held a strong defense to keep Dalton State from creating any dangerous chances.
It wasn't until the 74th minute that Jeanne Brigand took on a couple defenders and passed the ball to Gabby Cruzado who was able to shoot the ball in the net to put the Running Eagles in a 1-0 lead. Life U held a shot advantage of 9-0 in the second half but weren't able to extend their lead. Cruzado's goal was the only goal of the game, ending the game 1-0 to Life U.
Head Coach Meg McGonigle shared her thoughts on the team's performance postgame, stating, "I'm happy to get the win. Dalton makes it hard to play. It was a great goal from two players who had just got subbed into the game. I'm proud of the team for finding a way to win!"
Up next, the Running Eagles will travel to Mount Vernon, Ga to play Brewton Parker in the last game of the Regular Season on Monday, October 28th at 5p.m.
