NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Life U women's basketball team traveled to New Orleans to open their 2024-25 season, holding on to open the season with a win for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
The Running Eagles scored the first basket of the game and from that point forward it was a Life U lead through the entire first half. Leading by a maximum of eight in the first half. At the break, and leading 27-21, eleven different Running Eagles had received playing time with Brionna Sims leading the team at half with a game-high 10 points.
After carrying a lead into the locker room, SUNO came out with a rejuvenated offense battling back from the once eight point deficit in a five point advantage with a minute left in the third quarter, 46-41.
In the fourth quarter Maikya Simmons began to find her offense for Life U, contributing 11 of her game-high 19 points in the final quarter alone. A pair of Simmons free throws with just over three minutes left provided Life U the small 1-point lead, 54-53, and the Running Eagles never looked back as they held on for the 65-61 win.
Junior transfer Kenya Robinson took no time making her presence known in her first game as a Running Eagle, grabbing an impressive 10 point, 20 rebound double-double.
Up next, the Running Eagles will remain in New Orleans for another contest, facing Xavier University of Louisiana (La.) on Monday at 11 am.
