NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Life U women's basketball team was unable to overcome a competitive XULA team in a 63-58 loss on Monday afternoon in New Orleans.
The Gold Nuggets took control of the contest with a 30-21 advantage in the second quarter and held off Life UP until the fourth quarter with Life U attempting to push through but found themselves behind again in the last two minutes of the game.
The loss marks Life U's first of the season after it began the season with a win this past Saturday.Â
Despite the loss, junior newcomer Kenya Robinson continued her dominant start in the paint, with double digits in rebounds, contributing 13 rebounds and five points. Senior Brionna Sims led the team with 17 points and added six rebounds with four assists. Graduate Student Maikya Simmons also reached double digits with 12 points, while also adding five assists, two blocks and one steal.Â
The Running Eagles fought back from a pair of nine-point deficits in the first half to lead 44-34 going into the fourth quarter.
However, XULA fought back to grab a lead with 1:27 left and never looked back.
Up next, the Running Eagles will host Tennessee Wesleyan University Saturday November 2 at 3 p.m. in the Eagles' Nest.Â
