MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life U women's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 victory on Friday over Middle Georgia to move to the semifinals of the SSAC Championship Tournament.
The Running Eagles took advantage early in the game to set the tone for the contest as Lilja Bjorg Olafsdottir sent a powerful penalty kick shot in the 23rd minute to give Life U the 1-0 lead.
Life U was quick on the draw making it 2-0 as Jeanne Brigand would come off the bench scoring in the 32nd minute placing the ball in the back of the net after a connection from sophomore Sara Diaz.
Justine Candel made a pair of saves on Middle Georgia's best opportunities in the first half in the 3rd and 33rd minutes as she posted two saves on three shots in the first half.
The Running Eagles were not done scoring in the first half as Brigand tallied another goal in the 40th minute with this time a pass from defender Rebecca Noren.
Right out the break, Faith Martin would add a goal of her own finding a connection from Brigand and Gabby Cruzado.
Olafsdottir was not done yet, coming in during the 62nd minute then shortly after bringing the score to 5-0 off of a Sacha Millward assist.
"We are excited to be in post season," Head Coach Meg McGonigle stated. "We are excited to get the opportunity to go back to Montgomery and compete with some of the best."
Up next, the Running Eagles are set to take on William Carey in Montgomery on Nov. 7th at 1:30 pm CST in the SSAC semifinals.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Justine Candel recorded five saves in the shutout as the only goalkeeper in the net for the Running Eagles.
--Brigand tallied two goals and an assist coming off the bench early in the game.
