MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's basketball team secured a narrow 62-60 victory over Blue Mountain Christian in a closely fought SSAC contest. The Running Eagles overcame an early deficit with a strong third-quarter performance, scoring 21 points in the quarter to take the lead. Despite Blue Mountain's sharp three-point shooting, the Running Eagles had just enough to hold on for their fifth win of the season.
Kenya Robinson led the Running Eagles with a dominant double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end. Maikya Simmons added 16 points and played a crucial role in the team's third-quarter surge. Aniyah Offutt contributed 7 points and 5 rebounds, while Kaci Scott added 5 points off the bench, highlighting the team's depth.
Life University's 16 offensive rebounds led to 16 second-chance points. The Running Eagles shot 35.7% from the field and an efficient 50% from three-point range, capitalizing on their limited long-range attempts. The Running Eagles also out-rebounded Blue Mountain 43-36.
Blue Mountain Christian's strong perimeter shooting, including 10 three-pointers, kept them in the game. In the fourth quarter, and only up two, Kenya Robinson stepped up for the Running Eagles, scoring 7 of her 13 points in the fourth. Robinson also hit five crucial free throws down. Robinson also dominated the boards, grabbing seven rebounds in the period. Maikya Simmons added three key free throws to help preserve Life's slim advantage and hold on in the win.
With the win, Life University improves to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in SSAC play.
