Running Eagles Fall to RV Southeastern in Non-Conference Matchup

MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's basketball team suffered a tough 67-58 loss to RV Southeastern University on Tuesday afternoon in the Eagles' Nest. Despite a strong start and moments of dominance, the Running Eagles were unable to maintain their lead, faltering in the decisive fourth quarter.

The Running Eagles came out firing, establishing a 10-point lead early in the second quarter. Brionna Sims set the tone offensively, pouring in a team-high 17 points, while Kenya Robinson contributed 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. A well-balanced attack and solid defensive posture helped the Running Eagles maintain momentum through the first half.

In the second half, Southeastern steadily chipped away at the Life U advantage, showcasing a balanced offensive attack and stifling defense. By the start of the fourth quarter, the game was within reach for both teams, but Southeastern proved more composed in crunch time.

Life shot 41.3% from the field (26 of 63) and just 20% from beyond the arc (1 of 5). At the free-throw line, they converted only 5 of 14 attempts (35.7%). In contrast, Southeastern shot 52.9% from the field (27 of 51) and hit 71.4% of their free throws (10 of 14). Southeastern's bench outscored Life's 14-7, while their defense forced 17 turnovers, converting those into 22 points.

Brionna Sims led Life with 17 points on 7 of 18 shooting, adding three rebounds and three steals. Kenya Robinson contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, shooting an efficient 6 of 8 from the field. Maikya Simmons filled the stat sheet with 8 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals.

The Running Eagles won the rebounding battle, pulling down 38 boards to Southeastern's 34, including 19 offensive rebounds. However, they struggled to capitalize on second-chance opportunities, scoring 17 points compared to Southeastern's 15 in that category. Southeastern also capitalized on Life U's turnovers, scoring 22 points off turnovers compared to Life's 13.

The Running Eagles now look to bounce back after Thanksgiving, hosting Talladega College in the Eagles' Nest this upcoming Saturday, Nov. 30th. Tipoff is set for 2 pm.
