Running Eagles Outlast UT Southern in Thrilling SSAC Matchup

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life University men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 80-78 victory over the University of Tennessee Southern (UTS) on Saturday afternoon at the Eagles' Nest in SSAC action. The Running Eagles improved to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play with the win.

Life U set the tone early, building a 44-38 lead at halftime. Chaze Harris led the team with 13 points, nine assists, and five rebounds, orchestrating the offense effectively. Elias Ramirez added 12 points, including two three-pointers, while Dara Olonade contributed 16 points and three rebounds off the bench, shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the field.

In the second half, the Running Eagles relied on contributions across the roster. Cortez Johnson added eight points and grabbed four rebounds, and Matija Gledic provided six points and five rebounds off the bench. Life U's defense forced 12 turnovers and held UTS to 42.9% shooting from beyond the arc, creating opportunities to extend their lead.

Tennessee Southern made it a competitive game, led by Mark Vance's 20 points and six rebounds and Zaiden Cross's 21 points and six rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Firehawks could not overcome the Running Eagles' balanced attack and timely stops. Life U outscored UTS 40-36 in the paint and secured nine offensive rebounds to capitalize on second-chance opportunities.

The Running Eagles shot 50% from the field, recorded 17 assists on 30 made baskets, and committed only five turnovers, a new season-low. Disciplined defense and composure down the stretch helped secure the SSAC win.

Life U will return to action in the new year when they host to Point University on January 4th for another SSAC contest in the Eagles' Nest.
