WALESKA, Ga. - The Life U women's lacrosse team battled hard against the Eagles but were unable to pick up the win late.
The Running Eagles trailed only by two at halftime, but the Eagles continued to battle, outscoring Life U 5-3 in the second half.
Despite the loss, junior Lexi Santiago had an outstanding evening, tying for the team lead with five goals and leading the squad with eight ground balls. Fellow junior Alyssa Curto added two goals and three assists while Nicole Ortiz also delivered one goal, with one assist.
Goalkeeper Lilly Phillips was outstanding as well, making an incredible 15 saves for the Running Eagles.
The afternoon started inauspiciously for the Running Eagles, as Reinhardt scored the game's first three goals to lead 3-0 midway through the first quarter. However, the Running Eagles responded quickly, with goals from Santiago, Curto and Ortiz to bring the score to 5-4 to end the first quarter.Â
Reinhardt continued to dominate, scoring two more goals in the second quarter. Santiago was able to put one more goal in the back of the net before going into the break trailing 7-5.Â
The third quarter was a defensive battle with both teams only allowing one goal each with Phillips making seven game changer stops with the score being 8-6 going into the final 15.Â
The Eagles were able to outscore Life U in the final quarter 4-2 not leaving any room for the Running Eagles to make a comeback taking the win 12-8.Â
Up next, the Running Eagles will return home for their first conference matchup this Saturday, March 16, hosting St. Thomas at Lupo Family Field at 1 p.m.
