First Half Onslaught Leads Running Eagles Past Montreat 21-9

BLACK MOUNTAIN, NC. - The Life U men's lacrosse team came out hot against Montreat College in the first half to win 21-9 on a beautiful Saturday evening in North Carolina.

The Running Eagles were able to make an early run scoring the first two goals of the game within the first two minutes. After a Montreat goal, Life U was able to put up five more goals in the first quarter to help secure the AAC win. 

The victory marks Life U's fourth win of their inaugural season and their second conference defeat. 

The Running Eagles were led offensively by Junior Jacob Long, who beat his career high with eight goals while adding an assist. Josh Bell and Brayden Hittle had another successful offensive weekend by tacking on three goals each and both added a pair of assists.

On the defensive side, goalkeeper Colin Willis made 16 saves in goal while Christofer Tyson won 26-of-33 faceoffs and led the team with 18 ground balls.

Also on the offensive side, graduate student Mackoy Bodmer scored two goals and tacked on three assists, while Tyson was also able to add two goals too. 

After the Running Eagles raced out to a quick lead thanks to goals from Tristian Berry, Bell, Long, Harrison Hays, and Brayden Hittle answered with seven goals in the first 15 minutes  to lead 7-1 to start. However, from that point forward, it was a 14-8 run from Life U over the next three quarters.

Up next, the Running Eagles will host SCAD next Friday, March 29 at 5 p.m.

TURNING POINT:

- The Running Eagles outscored the Cavaliers 7-1 in a dominant first quarter to pull away for the win.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

- Long overcame his career high with eight goals.

- Willis had a huge defensive game with 16 saves in goal.
