MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life U men's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories Saturday at home taking wins over Carolina University and Morehouse College. The Running Eagles surrendered just one set all day winning 3-1 over the Bruins and 3-0 over the Maroon Tigers.
Match 1: Life U 3, Carolina University 1
The Running Eagles got off to a hot start against Carolina University taking the first set 25-17, but the Bruins were able to take advantage of some errors in the second set and stole one 25-21. Life U left no doubt in the third and fourth set taking both 25-22 and 25-12 in dominant fashion.
Life U jumped out to an early 19-13 lead forcing the Bruins to take a timeout in the first set, but the scoring continued as Life U led 24-15 Carolina made a late run scoring two to challenge, but Life U put it away on a kill by Diego Martinez.
The Bruins took charge in the second set to steal one away, taking the Running Eagles by surprise, but Life U battled back to make a quick run in the third set leading 9-4 to start. The Bruins were able to quickly go on a 5-0 run to bring the game to a tie, but the Running Eagles were able to keep enough space to lead the rest of the set to take it 25-22.
Life U used momentum in the fourth to leave no question, dominating the Bruins to win by 13.
It was a balanced attack for Life U as seven Running Eagles recorded kills led by Jose Llaneza with 11 and David Barcan with ten. Carlos Pinto contributed 32 assists as Gracjan Mackowiak put up six blocks.
Match 2: Life U 3, Morehouse 0
The Maroon Tigers tried to keep pace with Life U but the Running Eagles were able to claim a 3-0 win 25-22, 25-21, 25-17. Life U led 15-12 in the first set before the Maroon Tigers tacked on a few late with Life U being able to create enough space and take the win with a David Barcan kill.
Life u dominated in the second set to lead 7-3 early and by as many as 14-7. The Maroon Tigers began to chip away bringing the set close but Life U kept at pace being able to end the set off of a kill by Ethan Bustos
In the third set, it was a closer set as Morehouse took the first two points but the Running Eagles took control to close out the 25-22 win for the sweep.
Jeremy Ferreira added six kills while David Barcan, Diego Martinez and Ethan Bustos added four kills each.
Siebe de Gieter contributed eight digs while Gracjan Mackowiak and Ferreira both added four blocks.
Up next, Life U hits the road to take on Talladega College this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
