MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life U men's volleyball team was unable to keep pace with the Mount Vernon Cougars after taking the second and fourth sets in a tough 3-2 loss Tuesday evening.
In the opening set, the Cougars came out hot leading 22-13 before the Running Eagles went on a 7-1 run but it was not enough as Mount Vernon stole the first set 25-20.
After the Cougars stole the opening set, the Cougars continued to fight forward leading 20-16 until the Running Eagles took charge towards the end of the set. Life U went on a 4-0 run to bring the game to a tie. The defense stood strong, being able to end the second set with a block by Jose Llaneza and Gracjan Mackowiak 25-23.
The Running Eagles then struggled in the third set, dropping it 25-23 and took charge again in the fourth set. After leading the entire set Life U was able to end on the Mackowiak block again snagging the set 25-20.
The Running Eagles and Cougars pushed the game to a fifth set. Mount Vernon took charge after a Diego Martinez kill by taking the fifth 15-11.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Diego Martinez totaled 17 kills in the match with six coming in the third set and as well as six in the second.
--Jose Llaneza also tallied 14 kills while Jeremy Ferreria added nine.
--Gracjan Mackowiak totaled an impressive seven blocks.
--Carlos Pinto totaled 27 assists and Neft Vigo added 23.
