LAURINBURG, N.C. - The Life U men's volleyball team earned a split in North Carolina this weekend against Lawrence Tech and Lees-McRae College.
The Running Eagles started off slow Friday with a 0-3 loss against Lawrence Tech but was able to come back with a win Saturday over Lees-McRae 3-0.Â
Match 1: Life U 0, Lawrence Tech 3
In a matchup that was hard fought throughout, Lawrence Tech prevailed with a dominant three-set rally to overtake the Running Eagles.
The first set was back-and-forth in the early going, until the Blue Devils turned a 10-9 lead into a 15-9 lead off of a 5-0 run. From there, Life U was unable to recover, with Lawrence Tech taking the set by a 25-19 margin.Â
In the second set the Blue Devils took off quickly with taking the set 24-15.
The third set mirrored the first, with Lawrence Tech bouncing back and taking the game, 25-20 after a kill to end the day.Â
Match 2: Life U 3, Lees-McRae 0
The Running Eagles dominated the Bobcats from the early going and never looked back in a three-set victory to end the day.Â
Life U held Lees-McRae behind in dominant 25-18 fashion before taking control in the second and third sets as well to take a split going back home.
David Barcan had an outstanding game, leading the squad with ten kills while also adding four blocks. Alexis Prado took control of the defense with six digs and five assists. However, setter Nefty Vigo topped the team with 21 assists.Â
Jeremy Ferreira also helped defend the team with five blocks and also added eight kills.Â
Up next, the Running Eagles will head back to North Carolina to take on Carolina University March 14th at 6 PM.
