Women's Volleyball Finishes Day Two of Running Eagle Classic 2-1

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life U volleyball team squared off on day two of the Running Eagle Classic Saturday going 3-0 over Bryan College, Florida National University, and Brenau University. 

Life U 3, Bryan 2

Life U was able to make a comeback against a tough  Bryan after the Lions took the first set and claimed sets two and three 25-21 and 25-22. Bryan ended up stopping the run pushing the match to five sets, but Life U maintained control and snuck away with a 3-2 win. 

The Running Eagles added 58 kills on the board and eleven aces, while hitting double digit kills in three of the sets. 

Erica Irby was a threat at the net as she led the team with 15 kills and six blocks, while senior Chloe Teter also led the team in kills with 15 kills. 

Gianna DeVarenne had 20 of the 55 assists, while Destiny Drakeford was a powerhouse by adding six blocks. Gabriela Rivera excelled as well adding seven aces and 25 assists. 
 

Life U 3, Florida National 0 

The Running Eagles were able to keep pace with the Conquistadors as Life U took the match after falling to them day one. 

FNU maintained control early taking a 5-0 lead in the first set, but Life U jumped back being able to take the lead ending it 25-15. Life U was able to sweep the next two sets to end the match 3-0. 

Isabella Hanchi had 13 of Life U's 30 assists while Teter led the team with ten kills. 

DeVarenne led with 19 digs and Drakeford and Eilsa Fries tallied five blocks. 

Life U 1, Brenau 3 

The Running Eagles were unable to keep pace with the Golden Tigers as Brenau took the match in four to secure the last game of the day. 

Life U was able to keep up with Brenau in the first set after falling in extra points, but did turn around to snap set two 25-17.  The Golden Tigers fought back by taking the next two sets to secure the 3-1 win.  Life U totaled 31 kills and six blocks. 

Teter had 10 of Life U's 30 kills while also adding four aces. 

Up next, the Running Eagles will host Oakwood on Monday August 26 at 6 p.m. in the Upper Gym.
