TALLADEGA, Ala.- The Life University volleyball team grabbed a pair of wins Saturday over the New College of Florida and Stillman. The Running Eagles claimed a 3-0 win over the Banyans and before besting Stillman in four sets 3-1.
Match 1: Life U 3, New College of Florida 0
The Running Eagles were in a battle against the Banyans as neither of the first two sets were decided by more than three points. Life U claimed the first set after a long 28-26 clash that eventually fell in favor of the Running Eagles after a Gianna DeVarenne service ace. The Running Eagles then controlled much of the next two sets with a 25-23 win and a one-sided 25-15 win.
Chloe Teter led all players with 10 kills while teammates Elisa Fries and Kira Lilly added six each. Fries posted an attack percentage over .417 with just a single error in the match.
Gabriella Rivera and Isabella Hanchi split setting duties with a combined 27 assists. DeVarenne, serving as the libero, led the team with 11 digs.
Match 2: Life U 3, Stillman 1
After a slow start against Stillman, the Running Eagles cruised past the Tigers with 25-11, 25-16 and 25-17.
Despite dropping a set, the Running Eagles convincingly cruised to the victory with 17 more kills.
Kira Lily led the team with 12 kills on an impressive .435 hitting percentage. Rivera and Hanchi again split time as Rivera led the team with 17 assists. Life U had eight aces in the match.
Up next, the Running Eagles remain on the road, traveling to face the University of Mobile on Friday.
TURNING POINT:
—After dropping the first set to Stillman, the Running Eagles used a 9-2 run to build a second set lead and never looked back.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
