MOBILE, Ala. - The Life U women's volleyball team dropped a their first conference match to Mobile Friday evening 3-0. The Running Eagles kept it close in the first and third set, but fell behind in the second 25-20, 25-14, 25-21.
In the opening set, fell behind early with a 12-6 Rams run, but then crawled back in to keep it close by evening only trailing by one 19-18. The Rams took an advantage on a 3-0 run leaving Life U behind to take the 25-20 win.
Mobile was down early in the second set 9-7 as the Running Eagles rode momentum out of the first set, but the Rams were not going to lose this set.
The Rams pushed through on a 10-1 run to take a 21-12 lead. Life U fought till the end but Mobile continued the lead with a 25-14 win in the second set.
In the third set, Life U looked to give the Rams a challenge by keeping up the entire set, but then Mobile went on a 5-0 run to lead 21-17. Mobile claimed the lead and did not look back, closing out the match 25-21 for the straight sets victory.
Up next, the Running Eagles will travel to Faulkner University tomorrow to take on the Eagles in a SSAC match up at 2 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
--Mobile won in straight sets but the Running Eagles were able to keep up the pace in the first and second set.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
--Setter Gabriela Rivera led with 26 assists, while Gianna DeVarenne led with 17 digs.
--Chloe Teter led with nine kills and Erica Irby led with eight.
