SPARTANBURG, SC. - The Life U women's volleyball team fell short Friday night, falling in four sets to Spartanburg Methodist College.
After the Running Eagles pulled away in the first set and secured a 25-19 win.Â
However, SMC took control of the second set and never looked back, winning the next three sets to walk away with the 3-1 win.Â
Erica Irby led the Running Eagles with nine kills and two blocks while Kira Lilly pitched in six kills. Â
Life U jumped out to an early lead in the first set with a 11-8 edge eventually taking the set 25-19.
The second set was back-and-forth throughout, but with the score tied at 23 apiece, the Running Eagles allowed the Pioneers to pull away at the end to push to extra points winning 30-28.
SMC continued their momentum taking off early in the third set to take the 25-17 win.Â
From there, the Running Eagles provided pressure in the middle of the fourth set, but the Pioneers were able to take off, taking the rest of the game with a 25-17 win.Â
Up next, the Running Eagles will travel to Point tomorrow to take on the skyhawks at 1 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- After it looked like momentum had swung Life U's way, the Pioneers turned it right back with a dominant three set run.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Erica Irby led the Running Eagles with nine kills.
- Isabella Hanchi paced the team with 13 assists and four service aces.
