MARIETTA, Ga. — Today, 31 student-athletes were recognized at the Summer 2024 Life University Commencement.
Despite a tumultuous hurricane, 31 Running Eagles from 13 different teams were recognized in Friday's graduation ceremony in the Eagles' Nest. Thirteen student-athletes graduated with honors as five master's degrees and two doctorate degrees were earned. The athletic department was once again historic, claiming both the valedictorian and salutatorian spots for the second time in history.
This is the third quarter in a row a Life U Student-Athlete has claimed the highest honors and the first time since the Fall of 2022 that the department has claimed both prestigious honors. Abigail Nichols of the women's rugby team was the named the valedictorian while Joshua Trevilla Gamero was named the salutatorian.
Director of Athletics Jayme Pendergast talked highly of the graduating class, stating, "It's fun to see a valedictorian and salutatorian sweep for this summer's graduating class! As always, every graduating class represents a unique group of individuals, all who have made their own individual impact on their teams and the department. We congratulate all of this summer quarter's graduates and hope they will remain engaged alumni and continue to support Life U Athletics."
