HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The Life University men's soccer team saw its' unbeaten season come to an end late Thursday night at the hands of the #7 Crusaders of William Carey. Despite scoring first, a late goal from the home squad in the 85th minute spelled doom for the Running Eagles.

Manuel Carrillo saw the first real chance of the game just four minutes in. Aiming for the top-right corner, the forward forced a brilliant save out of the William Carey keeper. The opportunities continued to flow as Kaito Nakayama drilled the post in the ninth minute while Andrei Apostu was turned away just one minute later.

Both teams were extremely physical in the first half, with repeated fouls leading to each team seeing a yellow card awarded. Though there were 13 total shots in the first 45, neither team found the back of the net. The Running Eagles held the advantage in shots on goal, 5-1, with keeper Pawel Wolny being called into action one time and making a brilliant save.

The Running Eagles struck in the 53rd minute of action, taking the first lead of the contest. A ball swung into the box by Enrico Burigotto was punched out by the Crusaders keeper but into a dangerous spot. Landing at the feet of the Alvaro Hidalgo, the freshman wasted no time, volleying home the opening goal of the contest.

The lead was short lived as a massive mistake on the Life U back line saw the home squad equalize the contest just minutes later. The Running Eagles lead lasted a little over two minutes before the contest was leveled, 1-1.

Life U nearly took the lead in the 75th minute. A great through ball from Nakayama found the foot of Apostu, who forced a diving save out of the keeper. The follow up ball was there, but Vicente Cuquerella narrowly put the ball over the cross bar.

The Crusaders earned a late free kick just outside the box and capitalized. Swinging the ball towards the back post, the cross found the head of a William Carey player who finished the opportunity to take the lead.

Trailing 2-1 after the 85th minute goal, Life U continued to press for a late equalizer but was unable to find the tying goal. The contest concluded 2-1 in favor of William Carey, giving the Running Eagles squad its' first loss of the season.
