Men's Soccer Rallies Back to Beat UT Southern

PULASKI, Tenn. — The Life University men's soccer team rallied back to beat the Firehawks of UT Southern on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, late goals from Andrei Apostu and Manuel Carrillo flipped the script as Life U heads home with a 2-1 win.

A scoreless first half in Pulaski saw the Running Eagles out shoot UT Southern 4-2, with forward Andrei Apostu leading the team with three shots in the first 45. The freshman had a great look in the 5th minute of the contest, but the Firehawks keeper made the save.

On the defensive end, Pawel Wolny was called into action just once in the first half, making the save in the 27th minute. Apostu had another look at goal right before half but the header sailed high.

Out of the break, the home squad wasted no time taking the lead in the 47th minute. Now trailing by one, Life U searched for an answer. A pair of shots from Apostu and a good look from Kaito Nakayama were turned aside in the following minutes but in the 65th minute, the pair connected for the leveling goal. Off a free kick, Nakayama swung a left-footed ball into the box where Apostu headed home his team-leading 10th goal on the season.

Now in a 1-1 game, Manuel Carrillo was brought down inside the box in the 70th minute, leading to a Running Eagles penalty kick. Calm and collected, Carrillo buried the opportunity to move the score line to 2-1.

UT Southern hunted for an equalizer, but only found the crossbar in the 74th minute. The Running Eagles defense did not allow another shot in the contest and secured the 2-1 road win.

"Great on the road win for the lads to keep our undefeated record intact," said Head Coach Alex Pama. "I was very pleased with the first half play hwere we dominated the flow of play. Second half, UTS scored a very good goal. It required us, after some tactical changes, to play with a higher tempo and wr scored two good goals and had chances to score more. The defense played solid the remainder of the game, which allowed us to record the four-straight conference win and get us one step closer to our first goal."
