TIFTON, Ga. — The Life University men's basketball team moved to 4-0 in SSAC play with a Saturday afternoon win over the Stallions of Abraham Baldwin. The offense propelled the Running Eagles to the victory, specifically in the second half where the team shot 62.1% from the floor.
Life U once again had to overcome a slow start offensively. Struggling from the floor, the Running Eagles got relief from Maurice Wright, who laid in the first basket of the contest at 15:00. The defense did its best to keep Life U in the contest, but the deficit grew to 11 with 11:35 left in the first. However, momentum began to shift towards the Running Eagles. Going on a 13-3 run, led by a combination of layups and free throws, the lead was slashed to just one in a matter of minutes.
By the five-minute mark, the contest was tied. Calvin Payton wasted no time, giving Life U its first lead of the game just seconds later. The Running Eagles headed to the break leading 40-37 with Matija Gledic leading the team with nine points.Â
The half time break did not slow the Life U offense at all. Keeping the momentum rolling from the first, the offense continued to knock down buckets as a Brashon Hall layup gave the squad a nine-point lead with 14:24 to play. Wright gave his team the first double-digit lead of the contest minutes later as the ABAC defense had no answer.Â
Fully in control of the contest, the lead held steady in the double-digits for the remainder of the half. The largest lead of the game, 88-70, came as the contest was in its final minutes. Though the Stallions added some late points, Life U dominated the second half and closed the contest with a 88-76 victory.
Following the strong second half offensive, five Running Eagles posted double figure scoring in the contest, with Shane Stevensen leading the team with 20.
