Women's Basketball Falls to Loyola 59-70

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Life U women's basketball team fell short in a Saturday afternoon game against Loyola. Despite a strong first half, the Running Eagles lost 70-59.

It was an exciting back-and-forth first quarter for Life University's women's basketball team, ending in an 18-18 tie. After falling behind 2-0 early, Life quickly bounced back with a three-pointer from Dianis Hurtado to take the lead. The lead changed several times, with Kaden McCorvey contributing key baskets. Free throws from Kaci Scott pushed Life to a 12-8 lead, but Loyola responded with two free throws and tied it at 12-12. McCorvey's layup gave Life a 16-15 late lead, and Hurtado followed with a jumper to make it 18-15. However, Loyola hit a three-pointer as time expired, tying the game at 18-18.

In the second quarter, Life University took control, outscoring their opponent and building a solid lead. An early three-pointer by Loyola made Life fall behind, but Kenya Robinson responded with two jumpers, giving Life back the lead. Aniyah Offutt continued the momentum with a string of successful layups, pushing Life's lead to 26-21. Even with some missed opportunities on both sides, Life remained aggressive, and Robinson added another layup to make it 30-26. Loyola fought back with a couple of free throws, trimming Life's lead to 30-28. Scott and Khloe Vaughn chipped in, with Vaughn hitting a jumper to push the lead back to 32-28. Brianna Sims then added another layup, making it 34-28. The quarter ended with Life ahead 34-30.

Early on, Sims extended the lead with a successful layup. Loyola quickly responded with a couple of baskets, tying it at 36. Life retook the lead at 38-36, but Loyola pushed ahead with a clutch of free throws. Scott and Sims added some baskets, but it was not enough to catch up with Loyola's lead.

In the final quarter, Loyola pulled away, extending their lead to 56-44. Vaughn, Sara Viti, and Aniyah Offutt were able to score some baskets, but Loyola fought back, expanding the lead to 70-56. Despite a late three-pointer from Vaughn, Loyola finished strong, securing a 70-59 win.
