MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Life University women's basketball team battled in a tightly contested SSAC matchup but ultimately fell short against Faulkner, 68-63, at the Tine Davis Gymnasium on Thursday night. The Running Eagles dropped to 11-12 overall and 6-6 in conference play, while Faulkner improved to 11-10 (5-6 SSAC).
The game started with a fast pace as both teams traded early baskets. Life U found offensive success in the paint, scoring 34 points inside, while Faulkner countered with a strong perimeter attack, knocking down 12 three-pointers at an impressive 46.2% clip.
Life U took a 21-23 deficit into the second quarter but struggled offensively in the next period, scoring just 10 points before halftime. Faulkner capitalized on the opportunity, extending its lead to 38-31 at the break behind the hot shooting of Ruthie Smith and Nequoia Adams.
Coming out of halftime, Life U tightened its defense, holding Faulkner to just nine third-quarter points. The Running Eagles found their rhythm offensively, with Kenya Robinson leading the charge inside and Kaci Scott making key plays on both ends of the floor. A strong finish to the third brought Life U within two, setting up a dramatic fourth quarter.
Down the stretch, the game saw seven ties and multiple lead changes. Life U briefly took its only lead of the night at the 4:08 mark of the fourth quarter, but Faulkner responded with clutch baskets from Adams, who finished with a game-high 28 points, including five three-pointers and 11 made free throws. Smith added 21 points and eight rebounds for the home team.
Life U fought to the final whistle but couldn't overcome Faulkner's late surge. The Running Eagles shot 42.6% from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, going just 1-for-14 (7.1%).
