03.11.25

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Life University Men's Club rugby team traveled to Savannah last weekend to play in the Men's Premier division of the annual St. Patrick's Day tournament. The tournament consisted of two games on Saturday with the winners advancing through to play in Sunday's Premier Championship.

Starting on Saturday, the Running Eagles ran through the Gypsies and James River, not conceding a single point en route to two dominant wins. First, the Club Rugby team opened their tournament run with a 40-0 route over the Gypsies before blanking James River 49-0 to once again reach the championship match.

On Sunday, the Running Eagles faced the Premier Division Champions, the Detroit Tradesmen, coming away with a 15-5 defensive battle. Gabriel Michnya and Donovan Law both reached the try zone in the match while Dario Porta Sanchez hit a penalty kick and converted 1/2 in the win.
Director of Men's Rugby, Dr. Blake Bradford shared his thoughts on the successful weekend, stating, ""We are always very excited to get the opportunity to in the St. Patrick's Day tournament in Savannah. It is one of our favorite weekends on the rugby calendar and a great way to finish our 2024/25 season."

"We are very proud of the way our team competed throughout the weekend and the grit our men showed to pull off the win against a very tough Detroit Tradesman team. It was a massive effort by all to get the three wins. When it comes to big games, you need big players to step up, and Donovan Law managed to score the game winner for us followed by a Dario Porta conversion and penalty kick. Kudos to Coach Harley Davidson for taking the reins and leading the men this weekend, and a big thank you to both Chulu Mngxaso and Dario Porta Santos who all played their last game for Life University."

The win marks the fifth time the Running Eagles have won the St. Patrick's Tournament since 2017.
