MARIETTA, Ga. - The Life University women's lacrosse team took down the #7 Spartans of Missouri Baptist early Thursday afternoon. Led by Nicole Ortiz on the offensive front, the Running Eagles posted 19 goals in the contest.

In a competitive first period, it was the Running Eagles who jumped out to an early lead. Roxie Beasley put in the first goal of the contest just over one minute in before the defensive battle began. Life U held the lead for the next ten minutes of play before Missouri Baptist finally found its first. Nicole Ortiz gave her squad the lead back shortly after with 02:04 to play in the period. However, the visiting Spartans answered back once more, scoring a pair of goals in the final two minutes to take a 3-2 lead into the second.

Ortiz leveled the contest four minutes into the second period before the teams began to trade goals. After conceding a man-up goal to the visitors, it was once again Ortiz to find the back of the net. Alyssa Curto followed shortly after, giving Life U a 5-4 lead. Though the Spartans found another goal in the period, goals from Lexi Santiago and Ortiz gave Life U a 7-5 lead heading into the break.

Ortiz opened the third period with her fifth of the contest as the Running Eagles offense began to take over. Curto followed suit with a pair of goals as the lead doubled to 10-5. The Spartans tried to keep pace in the period but Life U headed to the final period of action with a 15-8 lead.

In the fourth, Missouri Baptist found its footing, going on a 4-1 run to start the period. The onslaught forced a timeout from the Running Eagles, which carried into a lightning delay.

Following the lengthy delay, the Running Eagles reestablished their dominance and closed the contest on a high note.

Up next, Life U is due to take on Ave Maria on Saturday, March 15.
