Men's Lacrosse Picks Up Road Win at Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. - The Life University men's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, taking down the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan. The Running Eagles used a massive second period to take the lead and momentum in the contest and never looked back.

The scoring began just seconds apart with the the home standing Bulldogs and Running Eagles trading goals. After assisting the opening goal, Jacob Long found Josh Bell near the end of the period for the second Life U goal. However, Tennessee Wesleyan. proceeded to go on a 4-1 run, giving themselves a 5-3 lead with 09:04 left to play in the second period.

Momentum shifted to Life U as the offense caught fire. Michael Levetown assisted Eric Manfredonia's first of the game, followed by two straight goals from Jared Cordova. Long capped off the second period with his second of the contest, giving the Running Eagles a 7-5 lead heading into the break.

The scoring continued directly out of the half. It took less than a minute for Levetown to find the back of the net as the lead grew to 8-5. As the teams traded runs, Life U continued to maintain a narrow lead over the Bulldogs. Long and Manfredonia both completed hat tricks during the third period and gave the squad a firm 11-8 lead heading into the fourth.

The pressure kicked up in the fourth as the Bulldogs pulled within one goal of tying the game. A pair of goals midway through the period brought the score line to 11-10 with 05:37 to play. As teams fought for control of the contest, Tristan Berry secured the lead for his team with a late goal. The Running Eagles bled out the final 01:04 in the contest to take a 12-10 victory back to Marietta.

Up next, Life U travels again, heading to North Carolina to face Montreat on Saturday, March 22. 

TURNING POINT:
--The Running Eagles outscored the Bulldogs 9-6 in the middle periods.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
--Jacob Long and Eric Manfredonia both had hat tricks.
--Josh Bell and Long tied for the team lead in points with six. 
--Bell led the team with four assists in the contest.
--Jared Cordova collected a team-high six ground balls.
--Colin Willis made 16 saves in goal.
