Life U Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Emory Spring Break Classic

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Life University Track and Field team opened the 2025 Outdoor Season at the Emory Spring Break Classic. The competing athletes were primarily from the men's program, with Katelyn Mendoza being the only competitor on the women's side. Darius Barge stood out on the men's side, winning both the shot put and discus event at the meet.

Barge's distance of 17.78m in the shot put marks his first A-Standard of the outdoor season while his distance of 50.64 marks his first B-Standard. Both tosses are PRs in his career and the shot put toss is the best distance in the NAIA thus far this season.

In the discus, teammate Winston Sanders placed third (48.12m) while Sanjuan Warner placed fifth with a PR toss of 44.97m.

Geovanni Hawes placed fifth in the shot put with a best distance of 14.76m. He also earned a top ten finish in the javelin toss, posting a 48.47m distance.

The lone sprinter at the event for Life U, Jamario Russell, placed fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 10.88.

Mendoza posted three separate PRs at the meet, while recording top ten finishes in two of her three events. In the women's shot put, she placed sixth with a 12.31m while placing eighth in the women's discus (36.15m).

Aidan Campbell locked in a top ten finish in the men's hammer, leading the Life U throwers with a 45.55m toss.
