LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Life University men's volleyball team notched their third conference win of the weekend in a convincing 3-1 victory over St. Andrews on Saturday morning. The Running Eagles rallied after dropping the first set to take the match with scores of 25-11, 25-16, and 27-25.
Despite a slow start in the opening set, the Running Eagles rebounded with an explosive second frame, powered by a dominant .462 hitting percentage. Setter Nefty Vigo orchestrated the offense with precision, racking up 43 assists and guiding four different hitters to hitting percentages over .200. Serano Keijl led all scorers with 17 kills and 19.5 points, while Charles Ewer added 12 kills on a .417 clip.
The Running Eagles' serve receive and serving game stood out as well, tallying 12 aces on the day. Defensive contributions were strong across the board, with Michael Stephens and Elijah Turner combining for 11 digs. The third set saw Life tighten up its net defense, with Vincent Eisinga and Jeremy Ferreira each contributing key blocks to stifle the Knights' offense.
The fourth set turned into a nail-biter with 14 tie scores and multiple lead changes. Ultimately, clutch kills from Keijl and strong late-set defense helped Life University clinch the final frame 27-25 and take the match.
TURNING POINT:
Life's second-set dominance flipped the match momentum, fueled by a .462 hitting percentage and five players recording kills. That energy carried into the third and fourth sets, where balanced offense and pressure-serving kept St. Andrews on their heels.
