Apostu's Brace Leads Running Eagles Past Point

MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University men's soccer team picked up a win in its first conference contest of the season, taking down the Skyhawks of Point on Wednesday night. The 2-1 win comes courtesy of Andrei Apostu, who netted both goals for the Running Eagles.

Life U dominated the possession from the opening whistle. Midway through the first half, after forcing four saves out of the Skyhawks keeper, the squad found the back of the net in the 25th minute. After a long thrown into the box from Devin Koorn, Thomas Rodella headed the ball towards net, where Finn Seijsener laid it off to Andrei Apostu for the first goal of the contest.

Apostu was not done, striking again in the 36th minute. Solid control in the midfielder area lead to a wide ball out to Enrico Lazzari just outside the 18. Playing an early ball, Lazzari found the feet of Apostu inside the six, where he tapped home his second goal of the night.

Life dominated the first half of action, holding the visitors to just two shots while recording 13 of its own.

In the second half, things got interesting as a poor giveaway lead to the Skyhawks cutting the lead to just one in the 53rd minute. Though Life U still had more shots in the half, the visitors recorded six shots in the second, including a dangerous look in the final minute that was saved by keeper Paulo Winnacker.

The Running Eagles best chance to extend the lead back to two came in the 84th minute as Vicente Cuquerella rattled the post. However, the extra goal was not needed as Life U remained undefeated with the 2-1 win.

"Good win in our first conference game," said Head Coach Alex Pama. "Solid performance versus an improved Point team. We missed many good opportunities, but didn't give much away defensively. The two to three moments we did well defensively. Now, we prepare for a tough road game and hopefully keep our unbeaten status. With the fight we showed today, it's possible."
