Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten Behind Carrillo's Late Brace

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Life University men's soccer team remained unbeaten with a big win over the Eagles of Faulkner late Saturday night. Locked in a 1-1 tie, Manuel Carrillo scored a pair of goals late to lift the Running Eagles past the Eagles.

Life U and Faulkner battled early for control of the contest, with the shot count remaining equal for the majority of the match. Though both teams had chances, all of the home standing Eagles were off target or blocked in the first half. William Galli and Enrico Burigotto forced saves out of the Faulkner keeper, but it was Alvaro Hidalgo to open the scoring. Just minutes away from half time, Burigotto connected with Hidalgo to give Life U the 1-0 lead heading into the break.

The battle continued in the second half as the Eagles leveled the contest just five minutes after coming out of the break. With 40 minutes of action left, the Running Eagles searched for relief in the form of a late goal. Manuel Carrillo stepped up in the 76th minute to give his squad a 2-1 lead. 

Carrillo did not stop there, adding his second of the contest in the 82nd minute, securing the game for the Running Eagles.

Life U closed out the 3-1 victory in Montgomery, picking up its second SSAC win of the season and remaining undefeated on the year.

"Great game and fantastic result," said Head Coach Alex Pama. "Faulkner has a good team and I consider them one of the top teams this year in the SSAC. To win on the road in such a place is a great accomplishment from the lads. Our conference and season start is solid. Very pleased with that. Now we have some time to prepare for BMC, which is at home, so hopefully our great fans will be there to support us."
