MARIETTA, Ga. — The Life University women's basketball team dominated in its SSAC matchup against the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian, winning the contest 73-55.
Both teams stayed competitive early, trading baskets in the opening quarter before the Running Eagles gained a slight edge and took a 20-15 lead into the second period. The Toppers offense started to find its stride in the second period as the bench scored 11 of the 16 total team points in that period. The Running Eagles cooled off a bit after a hot-start shooting first period (52.9%), only connecting on 38.5% of shots during the period. Heading into the break, Life U led BMCU 32-31.
At the break, the Running Eagles were led by Zayjah Knight with nine points, Kenya Robinson with seven rebounds and Myori Pruitt with five assists.
Out of half time, Life U started to create separation, using a 13-4 run to extend the lead to 10 with 6:10 left in the third period. The Toppers continued to battle, eventually cutting the lead down to just five (52-47) behind a buzzer-beating three-pointer from McKenzie Williams.
In the final period, Life U completely dominated the Toppers, outscoring the visitors 21-8 in the period to claim a 73-55 conference victory. The Running Eagles had four players score in double figures, led by 14 points from Tyasia Williams. Kenya Robinson, Zayjah Knight and Aniyah Offutt added 12, 11 and 10 respectively.
