MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Life University women's basketball team fell on the road to SSAC opponent Faulkner University on Thursday night, 97-45.
In the contest, five Faulkner players hit the double-digit mark in an impressive shooting and defensive performance from the Eagles. The home team shot 51.5% from the field and 50% even from beyond the arc, while forcing the Life U Running Eagles to 21 turnovers.
The first period was competitive throughout with both teams trading baskets and neither really finding an edge over the other as Life U took a 20-18 lead into the second period. In the second period, Faulkner started to pull away, opening the quarter on a 9-2 run in just under three minutes of game time to take a 27-22 lead with 7:17 left in the period. Life U tried to fight, but Faulkner was already settled in, closing the period on an 11-3 run to take a 38-25 lead into halftime. Senior Kenya Robinson was leading the way for Life U at the break with nine points to go along with eight rebounds.
After the halftime break, the Faulkner Eagles would continue to pour it on, having the best shooting quarter of the game in the 3rd while also outscoring Life U 31-8 in the period. The Running Eagles struggled to get shots to go and also did not have many chances at second-chance points as Faulkner was hitting the boards hard.
