SYLVANIA, OH – The Life University men's volleyball team battled through extended rallies and competitive stretches on Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell in straight sets to Lourdes University, 3–0.
The Running Eagles instantly found themselves in a hole, as Lourdes hit .385 in the first set and pulled away late to secure a 25–16 win. Long runs from the service line helped the hosts maintain an advantage while capitalizing on transition opportunities.
Life U found more rhythm offensively in the second set, staying within striking distance for much of the frame. The Running Eagles traded points with Lourdes through the middle portion of the set and showed improved execution at the net, highlighted by timely kills from Serano Keijl and Jan Burhardt. However, Lourdes closed the set on a late push behind efficient hitting from Daniel De La Rosa and Jaber Badarne to claim a 25–23 advantage and take a two-set lead.
The third set once again proved to be an extremely competitive set as Life U opened with strong energy, creating momentum with disciplined blocking and extended rallies on defense. The Running Eagles built a brief lead and continued to pressure Lourdes late, but the Gray Wolves responded with key points down the stretch. Lourdes edged out the set 25–23 to complete the sweep.
Lourdes finished the match hitting .330 as a team while totaling 46 kills and eight service aces. Life U recorded 28 kills and six total blocks, showing flashes of cohesion as the match progressed while continuing to build consistency early in the season.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
— Serano Keijl led the Running Eagles with 10 kills on .409 hitting while adding three digs.
— Jan Burhardt posted six kills, three service aces, and a team-high three blocks.
— Riley Chapman guided the offense with 20 assists, added six digs, and recorded a service ace.
— Jakub Kantorowicz contributed five kills and served an ace in a three-set effort.
— Nazmi Bayoglu anchored the back row with a team-high nine digs.
