Coba's Last-Second Goal Sees Running Eagles Draw at Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The No. 7 Life University men's soccer team drew against the Patriots of the University of the Cumberlands on Sunday afternoon in dramatic fashion. Trailing after a 50th minute goal from the home squad, Alex Coba played hero, netting the game-tying goal with just five seconds left in the contest.

The action was extremely slow paced to start in Williamsburg. Outside of fouls, the first recorded stat took place in the 22nd minute when the home squad earned the first corner kick opportunity of the game. The first half of action saw no goals, with the Patriots holding a narrow 4-2 lead in shots at the break. Keeper Pawel Wolny was required to make two saves in the first frame.

Out of the break, the intensity picked up. Cumberlands struck in the 50th minute when the Patriots found an unmarked forward in the box for a tap in. A pair of yellow cards followed for the Patriots as Life U hunted down an equalizer.

In an intense final five minutes of action that included six yellow cards, the Running Eagles earned one final free kick opportunity with nine seconds on the clock. Sending everyone into the box, Tommaso Senesi swung a ball front post, where Alex Coba headed home the game-tying goal with five seconds remaining.

The draw marks the second-straight season where a winner could not be decided in regulation between these two squads. The previous season, these two powerhouses met in the NAIA Round of 16 where the score remained tied after 90 minutes.
