CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Life University women's flag football program traveled to the Campbellsville Flag Football Frenzy this past weekend for four contests. The Running Eagles had a successful weekend, going 2-2 with wins over Cumberland and Lindsey Wilson.
Game 1 - Life U vs Cumberland - W, 25-14
Life U won a close battle with the Phoenix of Cumberland to kick off the weekend in Kentucky. After trading touchdowns in the first quarter, Life U created a bit of separation heading into half time behind a second Cheyenne Brooks touchdown. Though the Running Eagles were unable to convert either extra point opportunity, the team still took a 12-7 lead into the break.
Life U continued to create separation in the third quarter, once again adding two touchdowns from Cheyenne Brooks and an extra point, while the Running Eagles defense held the Phoenix to just one touchdown. Both defenses had a strong fourth quarter, with zero points being allowed in the final frame.
Brooks posted a monster game, going 24-39 with three passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Promise Cooper also had a dominant game, recording three touchdown receptions for 66 yards. Uzzhia Rumph led the team in total receiving yards with 77 while the defensive side of the ball saw Reagan Washington lead the team with six tackles.
Game 2 - Life U vs Saint Francis U - L, 18-27
Life U jumped out to an early lead in the contest behind two first-quarter touchdowns. Building off the momentum of a late touchdown in the first, the Cougars recorded the lone score in the second quarter and added an extra point to take a 13-12 lead into the break.
The second half belonged to Saint Francis as the Cougars added another seven-point strike in the third quarter before matching the Life U scoring in the fourth quarter.
Cheyenne Brooks went 16-32 on passing with two touchdowns. Latoya Mitchell led the team in receptions with six while recording 47 yards receiving. Reagan Washington led in total reception yards with 56 while Xavia Mann posted two touchdown receptions. On the defensive end, Kyra Zackery had eight tackles while Oumy Gaye had two pass breakups.
Game 3 - Life U vs Campbellsville - L, 14-27
The hosts of the Flag Football Frenzy wasted no time jumping out to a lead, scoring on the opening drive to make it 7-0. The Running Eagles offense responded with a strike of its own on a 21-yard rush from Dechea Branham.
The remainder of the half saw no more scoring as both defenses found their footing.
The Tigers took a 13-7 lead in the third quarter before pouring it on in the fourth. Adding a pair of touchdowns in the fourth, Life U struck for one of its own. However, the points would not be enough as the Tigers claimed a 27-14 win.
Cheyenne Brooks and Dechea Branham each recorded a rushing touchdown while Branham totaled 93 yards on the ground. Kennedy Ryan, Xavia Mann and Makayla Morgan each recorded four tackles on the defensive end.
Game 4 - Life U vs Campbellsville - W, 40-12
The Running Eagles closed out the weekend strong with a dominant win over the Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson. The contest opened close, with each team adding a touchdown and an unsuccessful extra point in the first quarter. Life U created separation in the second with a pair of touchdown strikes from Cheyenne Brooks. Taking a 19-6 lead into the break, the Running Eagles dominated both sides of the ball in the first.
The half time break did little to slow down the Life U offense. Once again scoring a pair of touchdowns in the frame, Brooks and company pushed the lead to 33-6. The defense again held the Blue Raiders scoreless for a second-straight quarter. Coasting to the finish, the Running Eagles ended the Flag Football Frenzy with a 40-12 victory.
Brooks posted an impressive 20-29 passing, tossing 5 touchdowns. On the receiving end, Dechea Branham led the team with 9 receptions, 142 yards and a touchdown. Altierra Gooch recorded 74 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Kalonis Outlaw and Jala Wright each recorded a touchdown reception. Defensively, Laila Wade made five tackles while Trinity Hutchins and Promise Cooper each had an INT.
