Women's Flag Football Advances to SUN Conference Semifinals Behind 32-7 Victory Over Thomas

LAKES WALES, FLa. - The Life University women's flag football team advanced to the SUN Conference Tournament Semifinals after taking down the Nighthawks of Thomas on Thursday afternoon. Life U dominated both sides of the ball, holding the Nighthawks scoreless for nearly the entire contest while putting up 32 points on the offensive end.

It was a solid start for both defenses. The Running Eagles defense forced a three-and-out to open the contest before the Nighthawks returned the favor. The Life U defense answered on the following drive, allowing just one first down before forcing a punt. However, the offense could still not get it going, ending the quarter with a punt.

In the second quarter, Life U struck early to get on the board. Quarterback Cheyenne Brooks led the offense down the field before Dechea Branham rushed home a 1-yard touchdown to make it 6-0. The defense continued to frustrate Thomas and quickly got the ball back in Brooks' hands. The sophomore needed just three plays to strike again, connecting with Branham on a 19-yard reception to make it 13-0. Coming up big once more, Life U punished the Nighthawks for going for it in a risky fourth-down situation, giving Brooks and the offense a short field to go. Finding Elora Niederpruem in the end zone on the first play, Brooks tossed a 16-yard touchdown and added a successful extra-point conversion to take a 20-0 lead to half time.

The only points of the third quarter belonged to the Running Eagles, who pushed the lead to 26-0. In the final frame, Brooks added one more touchdown pass to Branham as Life U claimed a 32-0 lead. The Nighthawks added points in the final minutes of the contest but the Running Eagles advance to the SUN Conference Semifinals against Warner behind the 32-7 victory.
