MARIETTA, Ga. — The No. 7 Life University men's soccer team took down the RV Gold Nuggets of Xavier Louisiana on Sunday afternoon at home. With all the scoring action coming in the first half, Tim Berger provided the game-winner in the 29th minute off an assist from Takahiro Suzuki.
The Golden Nuggets wasted no time pressuring Life U in Marietta. It took just under four minutes for the visitors to strike, taking an early 1-0 lead. Answering back immediately, Andrei Apostu picked out Tibo Jacobs in the box on the corner, where the center back headed home the opportunity.
Level once again and settling in, the Running Eagles began to dominate the contest. Firing away, Life U recorded six shots over the next 23 minutes before the seventh found the mark. Takahiro Suzuki played Tim Berger into the box, where the junior was just able to slide the chance past the Xavier Louisiana keeper to make it 2-1.
Heading into the half time break, Life U was firmly in control of the contest. The Running Eagles posted 13 shots in the frame to just four for the visitors. Pawel Wolny was required to make just two additional saves, marking his only work in the contest.
In the second 45, Life U once again controlled the contest. Though the Running Eagles were unable to extend the lead, the chances were there. On the opposite end, the back line allowed just two shots in the frame.
With the win over the Gold Nuggets, the Running Eagles improve to 5-0-1 in SSAC play.
