Men's and Women's Swimming Travels to New Orleans for Dual

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Life University men's and women's swim program took on the Wolfpack of Loyola New Orleans early Saturday afternoon. The women's program dominated, winning the dual 154-88 while the men's squad narrowly lost, 126-131.

Kyleigh Shonk, Petra Beky, Carla Rodriguez Jara and Kendall Ashburn opened the meet with a win in the women's 400 yard medley relay (4:04.93).

Raffaele Urtiola Rojas earned the first individual win of the day on the men's side, swimming a 9:49.65 in the 1000 yard freestyle. He also won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:42.48. Following in his winning ways, teammate Arthur Silva won the men's 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:44.91.

Nikita Snoeren narrowly outraced Shonk for the first individual win of the day for the women, swimming a 1:00.00 in the women's 100 yard backstroke. Shonk placed second with a 1:01.83 and also narrowly came in second in the 100 yard freestyle (56.61) later in the meet.

Carl Boennemark picked up an event win in the men's 100 yard breaststroke, racing to a 53.09. He also won the 200 yard backstroke, turning in a 1:59.04.

Beky earned herself an individual event win midway through the meet (1:08.16), beating teammate Elisa Gross (1:11.03) in the women's 100 yard breaststroke. Beky also won the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:27.68 and won the 400 yard IM in 4:49.43.

Rodriguez Jara outpaced Ashburn in the women's 200 yard butterfly, winning the event in 2:16.61. Ashburn swam a 2:20.05 for second place.

Leo Guleryuez swam a 21.55 in the men's 50 yard freestyle, winning the event. The freshman also won the 100 yard freestyle just minutes later, swimming a 47.10.

Elisa Gross won the women's 100 yard butterfly swimming a 59.00.

Xavier Trovesi won the 400 yard IM on the men's side, turning in a 4:11.89.

Zara Kleinhans, Shonk, Moanaroa and Ashburn won the final relay of the day, swimming a 1:41.97 in the women's 200 yard freestyle.

On the men's side Rasmus Petersen, Guleryuz, Urtiola Rojas and Arthur Silva capped off the meet with a win in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay (1:27.15).

The team of Maximilian Oppermann, Tyler BralyBonnemark and Silva narrow placed second in the men's 400 yard medley relay (3:30.01), finishing just 1.5 seconds behind first place.

Malfrid Seteklev earned second place in the women's 100 yard freestyle with a time of 11:31.51. Seteklev also placed second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:29.70). Teammate Megan Cronje also placed second, swimming a 2:07.60 in the women's 200 yard freestyle.

Oppermann earned a pair of second place finishes in both the 100 yard breaststroke (58.29) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:08.67).

In one of the closest races of the meet, Braly narrowly came in second place in the men's 200 yard butterfly (1:56.83), placing just .37 seconds behind first.

Terangimarie Moanaroa earned a second place finish in the women's 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.10.

Hannah Franklin securely placed second in the women's 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:26.75.
