BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Life University women's wrestling team showcased its dominance at the Mid-South Conference Championships, turning in a powerful performance with multiple individual titles and podium finishes across the board.
The Running Eagles controlled the tournament from start to finish, fueled by a deep lineup that produced eight individual champions and key contributions throughout the roster.
Following the event, Latifah McBryde was named the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Year, highlighting a perfect season and a commanding run through the bracket.
Life U's champions included Diana Gonzalez (110 lbs), Salyna Shotwell (117 lbs), Sarah Savidge (131 lbs), Zaynah McBryde (138 lbs), Jamilah McBryde (145 lbs), Latifah McBryde (160 lbs), Reka Busa (180 lbs), and Madeline Welch (207 lbs).
At 110 lbs, Diana Gonzalez pieced together a dominant tournament, opening with a tech fall before recording back-to-back pins in the semifinals and finals. She secured the title with a win over No. 6 Emma Jones (Indiana Tech) in a matchup between top-10 nationally ranked wrestlers.
At 117 lbs, Salyna Shotwell remained in control throughout, picking up a fall and a tech fall before earning a 6-2 decision over No. 6 Grace Lashinsky (Lindsey Wilson) in the finals.
At 131 lbs, the Running Eagles claimed both spots in the championship match, as Sarah Savidge and Olivia Mottley advanced through the bracket to set up an all-Life U final between the nation's No. 1 and No. 4 wrestlers. Savidge ultimately secured the title with a 3-0 decision, capping a dominant run that included two tech falls and a pin.
At 138 lbs, Life U once again owned the finals, with Zaynah McBryde and Christina Jaen meeting in another all-Running Eagles championship bout. McBryde, ranked No. 2 nationally, controlled the match to earn the title over No. 8 Jaen after both wrestlers powered through their sides of the bracket.
At 145 lbs, Jamilah McBryde controlled her side of the bracket with a pair of falls and a tech fall before earning a decisive tech fall victory over No. 11 Genesis Gilmore (Cumberlands) in the finals.
At 160 lbs, Latifah McBryde capped her perfect season with another statement performance. She recorded a tech fall and a pin before defeating No. 6 Bo Geibe (Indiana Tech) by a 10-3 decision in the championship match, further solidifying her claim as the conference's top wrestler.
At 180 lbs, Reka Busa powered through the bracket with authority, including a semifinal pin and a finals tech fall over No. 12 Katelyn Lewis (Lindsey Wilson) to claim the title.
At 207 lbs, Madeline Welch showcased her consistency with a fall, a tech fall, and a semifinal decision before earning a dominant tech fall victory over No. 8 Naomi Duenas (Cumberlands) in the finals.
Additional scorers included Anna Krejsa (6th, 124 lbs) and Amelia Fawcett (6th, 145 lbs), both battling through deep, nationally competitive brackets to add valuable team points.
With multiple ranked wins and two all-Life U championship matchups highlighting the weekend, the Running Eagles now turn their attention to the NAIA National Championships in Wichita, Kansas, where they will look to carry their momentum onto the national stage.
