Box Score MARIETTA, GA - The Life U women's basketball team was unable to keep pace with the University of Mobile, falling 81-66 on Saturday afternoon in the Eagles' Nest. The contest was close in the first half, but the Running Eagles failed to up with the Rams in the second half as shots refused to fall.
Despite the Running Eagles (3-3, 0-1 SSAC) coming out strong creating 20 field goals attempts in the first quarter, the team failed turn the chances into points as they trailed heading to the second quarter 21-16. In the second quarter, the Running Eagles began to find some luck on luck offensive end as both Maikya Simmons and Kenya Robinson got things going. Dianis Hurtado also provided a spark off the bench converting a timely 3-ptr. as Life U cut into the lead. Going into the break, the Rams led 40-38.
In the final 20 minutes of play the point margin grew in both quarters with the Running Eagles falling further and further behind by the minute. The quarter saw the Rams further separate themselves from Life as they attacked the glass and hit an impressive 8-10 free throws in the quarter.
In the fourth, and trailing by 26, Life's offense was halted as a six point fourth quarter was far from enough to make the game competitive. In the end, the Rams held on to win 81-66.
Overall, the Running Eagles connected on just 3 of 9 three-pointers (33%), compared to Mobiles impressive 6 of 13 (46.2%). Individually, Maikya Simmons scored 12 points and Kenya Robinson added another 12 points and 11 rebounds to secure her third double-double of the season. The Running Eagles saw impressive play off the bench as Dianis Hurtado recorded her best game thus far into her Running Eagle career. The Rams took care of the basketball, and converted twice the amount of points off turnovers. The Running Eagles finished with a 41-39 rebounding advantage, but in the end the end fell short 81-66.
Up next, the Running Eagles host Cumberlands (TN) this Wednesday in a non-conference matchup. Tipoff in the Eagles' Nest is set for 5:30 pm.
